Verum Chardonnay, Bodega del Rio Elorza

From: £1395

Unsurprisingly reminiscent to good Cotes de Beaune, pure and fresh, apple, pear, lime sit on top of a creamy, smooth mouthfeel, tad of smokiness on the finish.

Description

In 2001 the Del Río Elorza Family acquired vineyards in the Alto Valle del Río Negro, at 39 ° latitude south of Patagonia Argentina where there had been a vines planted since the early 20th century.  Renovation of the vineyard and winery started In 2004 with 20 hectares with specially selected clones of Malbec, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. In order to achieve the best and most rational use of water, they installed a mechanized drip irrigation system and a sprinkler irrigation system for active protection against frost, the only risk factor for production in Patagonia.

The climate is ideal for growing grapes. Cold winters, dry summers with great thermal amplitude, bright and warm days and very cool nights, allow the slow and prolonged ripening of the grapes, achieving a harmonious relationship between the sugar content and the acidity, good aromatics and colouring. Frequent winds and the low annual rainfall are healthy conditions for viticulture.

Finally, a winery equipped with stainless steel tanks, unpainted concrete sinks, French and American oak barrels combined with renowned winemaker Elias López Montero complete the line up to produce emaculate premium Patagonain wines.
